Mausam 'Cowed' down

Nowadays it appears that animals have more rights and privileges than human beings, at least as far as the censor board is concerned.

The five promotional trailers of Mausam are pending clearance, reportedly on 'humanitarian' grounds, as one of them features a cow. Not that the cow is being ill-treated or even milked on screen. It's just a cow passing by in a frame. Yes, you heard that right.

The censor board has now asked the Mausam producers to obtain clearance from the Animal Welfare Board, in order to get clearance.

Producer Sheetal Talwar is livid. "I understand any shot of an animal in a film has to be cleared by the Animal Welfare Board. For our film Rakht Charitra we even had to get clearance from the Board for random street dogs that wandered into the frame. Fair enough. There's a shot of a cow in Mausam. We are ready to get a clearance from the Animal Welfare Board for it." Talwar however wonders why all the teaser trailers have been held back.

"The censors are welcome to hold back the trailer with the cow, until we get clearance. But why hold back all five trailers?"

Pankaja Thakur, chief executive officer of the censor board said, "The regional officer in Mumbai, JP Singh, has examined the promos, and cleared all the same."

Singh however said, "The Animal Welfare Board's NOC (no-objection certificate) is required in order to show animals on screen."

Vidya Balan draws inspiration from Shahid Kapoor

The latest buzz in tinsel town is that Bollywood actoress Vidya Balan will be opting for butt-pads for her role of Silk Smitha in her upcoming film Dirty Picture.Initially Vidya was told to put on weight and then shed the extra kilos for her role but she later stepped back stating this was not possible.

Buzz is in the air that Vidya will have to put some bulk on the hips as well. Taking inspiration from his friend Shahid Kapoor, Vidya Balan is planning to take cosmetic help to give herself the well rounded look. Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao in period romance?

Buzz is that Sooraj Barjatya is looking to make a period romance now, and he is trying to rope in his favourite jodi Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao for it. Shahid and Sooraj have maintained great relationship right from their Vivaah days and Shahid even drops by at his home or office whenever he finds time. We hear, Sooraj might have brought up the movie to Shahid's notice. It is going to be a retro romantic film. Amrita, we are sure, will be overjoyed with this trade info.

Chopra rubbishes link-up rumors with Kapoor

Priyanka Chopra very often makes news for her on and off relationship with Shahid Kapoor. Neither Priyanka nor Shahid confessed about their love affair in public till date. This time Piggy Chops spilled the beams about her relationship with Shahid online and revealed that she is not dating the ‘Kaminey’ actor.

On her voice-blog, she recently said that she is often linked with Shahid because they share a great rapport. She added that their friendship often gets misunderstood as something else. She also said that if someday she finds her boyfriend, she would not hide behind curtains and lie but would share the good with her fans.

Kapoor & Chopra love-hate seesaw!

Everyone in the industry and beyond is baffled with the question of whether Shahid and Priyanka are still romantically inclined. The guess-exercise has left a lot of people wiggling their speculative tongue on what is the status of these two Bollywood heartthrobs. People have almost lost counts of how many times these on-off love birds have broken up only to patch up again. As a testimony of them being a couple, the little birdie has cited the IT raid incident at Priyanka’s house where the IT officials were surprised to find Shahid answering the door.
But if rumors are to be believed, Shahid and Priyanka have parted ways, this time for good. A little birdie confirmed that they have split up just few days before Shahid’s birthday. The reason of this break up is said to be incompatibility issue between these two.

Even after having a good companionship, as person both Shahid and Priyanka are poles apart. So they have decided to end this relation and move on. Shahid is not in a mood to woo her back.

Priyanka will star with Shahid

Relationships in Bollywood are never short of twists and turns. A few days ago, speculations were rife that Priyanka Chopra was in two minds about doing Kunal Kohli’s as-yet-untitled film – opposite Shahid Kapoor – due to their on-again-off-again relationship. But Kohli insists his film will feature Chopra opposite Kapoor.

“Yes, Priyanka is absolutely confirmed for my film,” says Kohli. “I don’t think either Shahid or Priyanka would ever give more importance to factors other than the script to choose a film. And Priyanka is a professional. If she agreed to do my film, why would she walk out or have second thoughts?” But Chopra has been quoted in reports saying that the “film is not confirmed yet and I am still in talks with Kunal.” However, Kohli insists he is ready to take the film on the floor. It had been suggested that Chopra’s reluctance is due to her hectic schedule. As she wraps up Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2, Hrithik Roshan-starrer Agneepath is set to roll followed by Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Barfee and Krrish 2.

Apparently, Kapoor readily agreed to do Kohli’s romantic film. “I know they make an interesting pair for the media but I was really surprised to read such reports,” the director says. Rumours have it that Kapoor and Chopra have added another break-up to their supposed two-year relationship. She wasn’t present at Kapoor’s star-studded birthday party recently, though she sent him a white helmet as a gift.

Kohli, on his part, is waiting for Kapoor to wrap up Mausam. “I’ll start by June because Shahid is supposed to wrap up his father’s film Mausam by April. I can’t divulge much except that it’s an interesting love story with great music,” says he.

Shahid Kapoor In Mausam - First Look

It has been predicted that 2011 will undoubtedly be the year for sequels in Indian cinema. However, one such film which won’t be a second or third installment is Pankaj Kapur’s Mausam. Starring his son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, the movie will see Shahid play the role of a pilot which, if rumours are to be believed, has a likeness with Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun.

With the tag-line “A timeless love story” and recently revealed first looks of a unique nature, the film is said to be one of the most romantic stories of recent times. The posters give a regal feel and fans can be forgiven if reminded of a look which draws similarities to 1942 - A Love Story. The two posters that Shahid tweeted on Valentine’s Day as the “Season of love” are cleverly designed in warm and cold colours, in keeping with the “Mausam” theme. The eternal element is brought in only when looking at both posters at once where it is noticeable that one attempts to encompass a love story with the innocence of yesteryear whereas the other depicts a contemporary pose between the two protagonists.

Mausam is already creating waves of expectations for fans and industry folk with the freshness that comes along with it. The movie will see Shahid in a role very different to any other he has portrayed before. The actor was recently reported to have to fly an F-16 fighter jet for his role and was honoured to do so. A source close to the event revealed, “Shahid couldn’t drink any liquid 4 hours before flight n couldn’t eat anything 16 hours before, except for two chocolate bars before flying”.

The movie will also give birth to a fresh new jodi in Bollywood. Although at first glance, Shahid and Sonam may seem like an unlikely pair, their coming together will be interesting to say the least. It has been said that the two shared a good rapport whilst shooting and their tweets while in filming in Scotland reflect just that. Stories were rife about Sonam’s refusal to kiss the chocolate boy Shahid on-screen but on the whole, it seems the duo will set the screen on fire in a sweet and romantic sense.

Shahid, the only person Priyanka thought of during raid

The sudden Income Tax raid at her residence in Mumbai`s Versova area and the presence of actor Shahid Kapoor there was a double whammy for actress Priyanka Chopra.

The actress, however, declined any tax evasion, and said because Shahid stays at a stone`s throw from her house, he was the only person she could think of in such an unfortunate situation.

"The only person who stays with me is my mom, who was not present at home and Shahid stays three minutes away from my place. So he was the only person I could call up then. So he was there," Priyanka told reporters at a press conference here Monday night.

When asked about the reported discovery of Rs.6 crore from her residence, she said: "My CA (chartered accountant) has given an official statement regarding that and personally my spokesperson has given you an official statement. It`s shocking the way unsubstantiated news is making rounds as authentic news."

"You believe in rumours when they run it as front-page news, without checking its authenticity. Neither you ask the accused person whether the allegations are true or not, nor do you substantiate it with any paper work."

"I had never experienced anything like this before. Whatever happened has deeply hurt me and deeply affected me. I have already said whatever I had to say and we have continuously cooperated with the investigating authorities."

"As far as the discovery of Rs.6 crore from my house, neither I had so much of money under my mattress nor I have seen so much of money together in my life," she said. The media then wanted to know even as she is one of the highest taxpaying actors in Bollywood, why did she come under the income tax scanner.

"As people say that it happens with big stars. I still feel proud that I am counted among the few highest tax paying bollywood stars and hope to be so as long God continues to give me the opportunity," Priyanka said.

Shahid Kapoor Caught Only In His Shorts At Priyanka's House

As we all know that how close friends Shahid and Priyanka were. But this was really surprising when last morning Income Tax officers raid at priyanka Chopra's Versova residence at 07:30am and were greeted by non other than Shahid Kapoor at the door rubbing his eyes and was wearing nothing but shorts. Shahid left the house after the arrival of Income Tax officials.

I-T officials were shocked to see Shahid at Priyanka's door and for a while they got confused that might be they had raided the wrong apartment. Priyanka lives in sixth apartment in Classic Building on Yari Road.

Well its strange that why would Shahid opens the door, as Priyanka has servants in her home. I-T official said that its a very personnel raid and meant to be a swift operation and we didn't give a chance to any one to warn the actor that we were on the way up.

The 70 officers raided 12 properties belonging to Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif in connection with alleged tax evasion, Senior officer explained that the officers were drawn from vaious units.

Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor & Priyanka Chopra live perform in Durban

Durban is in for some real Bollywood flavour when stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will groove to their hit numbers Sunday at an event to celebrate 150 years of India-South Africa friendship.

The concert, which promises to bring together the world of cricket and entertainment on a common platform, will be hosted by actor Anil Kapoor. This friendship concert is an initiative by AAMEDIA, a South African corporate, and Cricket South Africa. It is being directed and executed by Wizcraft International Entertainment and Cineyug Productions.

"Wizcraft has had a very warm and welcoming relationship with South Africa. The second IIFA Weekend and Awards were held in Sun City in 2001 and we returned for the fourth edition of the same in 2003 in Johannesburg forging a strong relationship between the two countries," Wizcraft director Sabbas Joseph said in a statement.

"The hospitality extended to us was touching and overwhelming. South Africa holds a big place in our hearts," he said.

"We have made new friends and fond memories and now an opportunity to come back and produce a concert in Durban. Celebrating Indian cinema and cricket is truly a privilege," he added. The event will be held in commemoration of the arrival of the first Indian laborers in 1860 to work on the sugarcane plantations in South Africa.

The concert will also honour Sachin Tendulkar and Makhaya Ntini - two great stalwarts of cricket from India and South Africa respectively. Several South African artistes are also scheduled to perform at the event, including Liquideep, Locnville, Drum Cafe, HHP, and 1st Project.

Wizcraft is looking at many other events in 2011. It is set to produce a concert for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in Sri Lanka and also has been selected to execute the opening ceremony of the event to be co-hosted by Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.

Priyanka Chopra & Shahid Kapoor to re unite?

Much has been talked about the Shahid Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra love saga. But the duo never admitted they were ever dating when they were in a relationship and always remained tight-lipped about their equation when romours of their break up sprung up. Reportedly the sizzling duo will be seen opposite each other in filmmaker Kunal Kohli’s next.

Buzz has is that the film has two women playing the lead roles. Producer-director Kunal has plans to approach Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha and Deepika Padukone for the second lead role.

However, the filmmaker chose to maintain silence on Shahid-Priyanka teaming up for his latest. While talking to a news daily, he said, "It is true that Shahid has been signed on. It is a love story spanning a 100 years. I cannot comment on the actresses as we haven`t started casting yet," is all he said. Shahid told BT, "I have enjoyed Kunal`s works in the past whether it`s ‘Hum Tum’ or ‘Fanaa’ and I`m looking forward to this love story. Whoever he decides to be cast opposite me, I`m okay with it."

Shahid-Priyanka fans have not been able to rejoice after ‘Kaminey’. Now with news of the duo hitting the silver-screen together for their new film might give their fans a reason to smile. But whether or not PC will accept Kunal’s offer is something to wait and watch, considering the fact that the lady has been more in news over her alleged relationships with her co-stars and little for her work. Shahid Kapoor is in a difficulty

Shahid Kapoor is in a dilemma. He has been offered the central role in two international projects by two of the most recognised Indian female directors abroad Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta, and he can pick only one. Not only do the dates for the two projects clash, so do the directors helming the two projects.

NRI queens both, Mehta and Nair have never been known to see eye to eye. While Mira Nair's The Namesake could be considered the breakthrough Indian film in the international market, her rival Deepa Mehta's Water is the desi film that has cracked the list of Oscar-nominated films in the foreign language film category.Both the directors are ready to embark on another competitive journey.

While Mira wants to cast Shaks in her wide-screen adaptation of Mohsin Hamid's The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Deepa wants to pair him against the Resident Evil hottie Milla Jovovich in her film entitled Beeba Boyz about a Punjabi gangster and his firangi moll.Says a source close to Deepa, "She feels Shahid's boyish charm and his inherent Punjabiyat is perfect for the part in Beeba Boyz. She has in fact sounded him out and he has shown interest."But the actor knows he can do only one of the two films. Which one will he pick? It is an either/or situation. Your call, Shahid.

Shahid Kapoor & Priyanka's Romance

Even before they could go public with their relationship, it’s stated that troubled couple, Shahid and Priyanka, has broken up yet again. And this time their break-up is for keeps. The couple that had been dating for quite some time now has finally decided to call it off and go separate ways after giving their affair a second chance. With no hopes of reconciliation this time, the duo mutually ended the affair that had been making spicy tabloid headlines.

Confirming the news a source told a daily, “Shahid and Priyanka are fond of each other. But once they are in a relationship, things get more intense and cease to work. Both individuals have different perspectives on life and are career driven. The actors never went public about their relationship because they were always very uncertain about its status. Things always kept fluctuating and they were on and off for a long period. Only a few months ago did they patch up, only to break up though.

Buzz has it that it all went kaput after Priyanka returned from her Khatron Ke Khiladi shoot in Brazil. “The constant fights finally ended the relationship,” adds the source. Even though the couple was recently spotted together at the screening of Priyanka’s latest release, ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, sources state that they had been giving each other hell for long.

Stuck in the Middle: Bollywood's delayed films

This past Friday, the Shahid and Kareena starrer Milenge Milenge, finally hit theaters after a six year wait. It is the latest in a long line of films to be seen on screen after an extended delay.

It was only down to hard work and persistence from producer Boney Kapoor that this stuck film made it to the final hurdle, way after its scheduled 23 December 2005 release.

Shooting began on Milenge Milenge when the stars were still a couple. Since then, Kareena has of course gone on to become one half of the Saifeena jodi, while Shahid has been linked with Vidya, Priyanka, Genelia and whichever heroine he happens to be co-starring with at the time. And to think Shahid and Kareena's last film Jab We Met is universally regarded as their best performance, filmed as the couple were heading towards serious splitsville. One of the problems of selling new wine in an old bottle is continuity. Check out Kareena go from not-so-slim to slim to size zero and back again, and watch Shahid as he fluctuates between the boyish chocolate boy of yesteryears to the almost thirty-something he is today.

This is not the first Bollywood film to be stuck. Earlier this year Dulha Mil Gaya was released in January after being held up for a couple of years. In 2007, Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu and Sanjay Dutt starrer Nehlle Pe Dehlla was finally unleashed. Originally titled Jimmy aur Johnny, the comedy was completed in 2002 where it sat collecting dust. Govinda in Naughty @ Forty is another one hit by hard times. Shooting started on the project over two years ago, but the latest is - the producers are out of money. Sushmita Sen again, still no sign of dream project Rani Laxmi Bai.

Then there are the films which fall into the all talk no action category. Take Mallika Sherawat starrer Hisss, long since wrapped, no amount of Cannes appearances or Mallika tweeting brings its release date any closer. What about Preity Zinta-Shiney Ahuja starrer Harr Pal? In light of recent circumstances, my money says this one is never going to see the light of day!

Although most stuck films tend to lay an egg at the box office, there are exceptions. Hindi film epic Mughal-e-Azam was originally planned in 1944, shelved due to political tensions, and had been in production for nine years when it released in 1960, going on to give record collections. It remains to be seen if Milenge Milenge can do a Mughal-e-Azam.

Milenge Milenge review: Too staid for a comedy, too bland for a romance

Milenge Milenge is a prime `how-not-to’ example of turning an original film’s unique concept into a predictable Bollywood romance.

Milenge Milenge was made five years ago. The Indian film audience has since evolved and has developed a taste for more stimulating stories.

Of course, rom-coms are still the popular flavour, but even love stories are checking their syrupiness level and adding a dose of authenticity. In this film, the heroine describes her life’s goal as finding Mr Right, having two kids, and looking after the home and children while the husband is off to work.

Stepford Wives, anyone? For characterisation, you have the girl smiling at everyone, including unsuspecting security staff, buying flowers for no reason, and staring at wedding lehenga-cholis longingly at store windows.

Writer-director Satish Kaushik (Karzzz, Tere Naam, Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai) has always had a problem portraying his female characters effectively. Stuck in a time warp, he believes that the leading lady ought to be a teddy-bear adoring, love-crazy girl without a mind or a spine.

So our protagonist Priya (Kareena Kapoor with the favourite screen name back then), is thrilled when a tarot card reader predicts that she will find her love within seven days, at 7 a.m., and the lover will be wearing seven colours.

She falls in love with Immy (Shahid Kapoor) who meets her ideal of being a teetotaller and a non-liar. But then we realise that Immy’s been manipulating her all along. And there’s where comes in Serendipity, the 2001Hollwood success from which the rest of the film’s plot is taken.

Priya decides to test destiny, and determine whether they’re meant for each other. Phone numbers are written on a book and a currency note. `If we’re meant to find each other, we’ll find each other’s numbers,’ they say and sign off. Now three years later.

They’re still in love with each other, but without any means to contact. That’s the ‘rom’ part. The ‘com’ part is the kind to make your toes curl. For it takes a special kind of endurance to sit through Shahid Kapoor and his college friends in drag, heaving their implants to a raunchy song.

Shahid plays the lover-boy with his usual stock of expressions that hasn’t changed over the years. His earnestness and sincerity shines through as always, though. Kareena’s character is super-boring, but her effervescence somewhat makes up for the wishy-washy character sketch.

In keeping with those times, we must endure Kareena Kapoor with blonde highlights and garish make-up (shocking pink nails, always shiny lips). And, yes, both lead characters have “best friends” employed solely for the reason of making the lead pair look good.

So forget about the film. Everyone knows it’s dated. The main draw is the onscreen, once off-screen, pairing of Kareena and Shahid. They’re cute together, but they don’t share the fun chemistry of Jab We Met. Too staid for a comedy, too bland for a romance, the film might draw those viewers keen on seeing Kareena-Shahid onscreen again.

Shahid disturbs Kareena

Bebo is seen in promos of Milenge Milenge with Shahid Kapoor. The film was stuck for various reasons and it took almost five years to finish the project. The latest news buzzing around is that Kareena is very upset about the fact that the promos of Milenge Milenge say They are back together.

Bebo is happy with Saif and wants to stay away from her past, Shahid. Kareena helped Boney to finish the movie.

But now the promos are linking Bebo's and Shahid's relationship. Bebo is upset because the promo suggests that once they were together. So now Kareena's mere connection with Shahid and his thoughts, upsets Bebo.

Iranian bride for Shahid Kapoor?

Obsessed with Sasha, Iranian woman tore her passport just to stay in the country; writes poems and has imaginary love chats with the star. True stories can, sometimes, make the filmiest Bollywood plot pale in comparison and Parvaneh Morteza Faghiri's is one such story.

The 39-year-old from Iran, who flew down to the city for the second time on May 7 to meet her 'one true love' Shahid Kapoor, is now in a rescue home and the Sahar police are completing formalities to send her back to Iran today.

How it began

Parvaneh says she saw Shahid on television and fell in love with him instantly because she found him romantic. Though she was married to an Iranian man and had a 15-year-old daughter, Zaara, she felt her husband did not love her and, thus decided to leave him.

In February last year, she flew down to Mumbai to meet the actor and convince him to marry her. She said that during her last trip to the city, she had showed people Shahid's photographs and asked for his address."According to her, one of the high points of her last trip was seeing Shahid at the airport once. She kept shouting out his name and he smiled in return. When Shahid was leaving, she shouted out again and he gave her another smile," said an official from the rescue home in Kandivli where Parvaneh has been staying.

Second trip

Parvaneh landed at the Sahar airport on May 7 and immediately started telling people that she wanted to meet Shahid. The Sahar police then took her to the police station, where she kept insisting that she be allowed to meet the actor. On being told that she would be sent back to Iran immediately, she tore up her passport.

Shahid kisses Anushka 3 times

Smooching on screen doesn't make news anymore for the simple reason that almost every new Bollywood film has one.

But when two hot and good looking celebrities like Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma kiss, everybody notices.

The news is doing the rounds that Shahid and Anushka kiss not just once but three times.

In their film Badmaash Company, which releases today. The kisses are said to be a complete lip lock.

It was reported that Shahid was comfortable doing the hot sequences but Anushka was not.

However, director Parmeet Sethi managed to convince her. The makers of the film decided to include kiss scenes.

As they wanted to exploit the pair's chemistry. It was even reported that they were seeing each other.

Shahid chose to keep silent but Anushka came out in the open and claimed that they were just good buddies.

We don't know if they are more than just friends but film buffs will surely look forward to see their kissing scenes. Badmaash Company, produced by Aditya Chopra, also features Meiyeng Chang and Vir Das in the lead roles.

Bollywood hopes for a summer splash post-IPL

With curtains on the IPL cricket tournament, Bollywood is all set to buzz with activity as a slew of big-budget movies with nearly Rs 350 crore riding on them slated for release.

As the over month long tournament grabbed eye balls, major releases were held back. The first biggie lined up for release is Sajid Nadiadwala's comic caper Housefull on April 30.

Yash Raj films' Badmash Company starring Shahid Kapur and Anushka Sharma will hit the screens on May seven, Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer Kites on May 21, followed by Prakash Jha's political thriller Raajneeti on June 4 and Mani Ratnam's 'Raavan' on June 18.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra told PTI that the film industry will be closely watching the performance of these big releases. "Stakes are high for the industry reeling under recession, high production costs and films flopping at regular intervals. At least Rs 350 crore is riding on these summer releases," he said.

The first look of Raavan has already created a buzz and the film's music will be launched in Mumbai tomorrow. Abhishek and Aishwarya will be seen together in a movie after three years. Their last film with Mani Ratnam was Guru and soon after the release the two actors were engaged to get married.

In Raavan, Abhishek will be seen in a negative role while Aishwarya has been paired opposite Tamil superstar Vikram. It was speculated that Abhishek plays the character of the Naxalite leader Kobad Gandy but the actor refuted it on his micro blogging account Twitter.

In Prakash Jha's Raajneeti a lot has been said about Katrina Kaif's character of a widow who takes a plunge into politics and that it was inspired from UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
