Anushka Sharma I don't unite any ruffles around me

Anushka Sharma I don't unite any ruffles around meAnushka Sharma has now notched up her third straight success in a row with 'Band Baaja Baaraat' doing quite well at the box office. Before that, she has enjoyed some great times with 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' (Superhit) and 'Badmaash Company (Semi hit). Nevertheless, doesn't this girl from Bangalore feel disheartened that despite enjoying a cent percent record so far, she is yet to get her due?

"I am sure things will fall in place sooner or later," smiles Anushka who would next be seen in 'Patiala House' opposite Akshay Kumar, "If your work is not good and you are known only for your public appearances, your market value will eventually die it's natural death. This is the reason why I don't add any frills around me."She is hopeful though that things would change for better in due course of time.

"I would get the kind of respect and appreciation that I deserve in the industry. Let my body of work reach out to people," she says with her chin up, "I have immense confidence in myself. Eventually I think that if your work is good then people will sit up and notice that. There would be a wow factor that come in by itself."Well, one hopes so for sure Anushka with 'Patiala House' all set to hit the screens on 11th February.

Asin to work with Shahrukh Khan in next

Asin is probably touted to be signed opposite Shah Rukh Khan for the adaptation of Two States . While Priyanka Chopra's name was being speculated, Shah Rukh and producer Sajid Nadiadwala have chosen Asin as they wanted a fresh pairing. As Priyanka has been paired with Shah Rukh earlier, their search ended on Asin.

Asin work with Shahrukh Khan in next

After working with Aamir in Ghajini and Salman in London Dreams, Asin might end up being one of the few heroines to have worked with all the three Khans. The role of a Tamil girl suits Asin to the tee and she has always professed eagerness to work with SRK. Asin has her fingers crossed as she waits to sign on the dotted line.

Dabangg - Movie of the year 2010

Dabangg - Movie of the year 2010The year has come to a close and it’s time to salute the winners of the box-office battle. But instead of crowning the highest grosser, we’ve selected movies that earned well in multiples of the money invested in them. In the trade world, everyone from analysts and theater owners to head honchos of multiplexes and distributors had a unanimous answer in terms of return on investment, the number one film of 2010 is Dabangg, which made `140 crore. Komal Nahta, editor of Film Information, asserts, “Dabangg is the highest earner of the year. Not only did it do phenomenally at the box-office, it also fetched a great price for the satellite rights. The music too continued to do well long after the film’s release.

One reason why Dabangg was made at a reasonable cost is that there’s nothing big in the movie except for Salman Khan. According to Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Films Ltd, “The director and heroine were both new. The film didn’t boast of extravagant sets or exclusive outdoors, so the production cost was automatically in control, at 32 crore minus Salman’s fee. In terms of volume, it returned about 300 per cent.”

Question them about Ekta Kapoor’s relatively economical Love Sex Aur Dhoka directed by Dibakar Bannerjee, which cost about 4 crore and grossed over 10 crore, and Mumbai distributor Ramesh Sippy says, “Although LSD had a turnover much in excess of its cost, it’s not an all-India hit nor will it go down memory lane. It is a commendable effort that paid off very well, but the fact remains that Dabangg worked all across.”

In the same vein, Suneil Wadhwa, a major distributor from CP (north India) territory, adds that universal appeal makes Dabangg the numero uno movie of 2010. “It worked equally well in single screens and multiplexes, in all centers from big metros to small towns, and struck a chord with the audience. Every distributor and exhibitor made money,” he explains.

The trade market shares a similar stance on Golmaal 3 being the second biggest hit of the year. “Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor were the biggest actors and it maintained a good risk-reward ratio. Being a Diwali release, it not only opened very well, but also went on to do good business in the third and fourth weeks, crossing over 100 crore,” says Delhi-based distributor Sanjay Mehta. Interestingly, Golmaal 3 scored over Dabangg in the Mumbai territory.

While a section of the trade put Prakash Jha’s political drama Raajneeti at number three, trade analyst Amod Mehra feels I Hate Love Storys, too, makes the grade. “Costing about `25 crore, it returned about `45 crore, which is very good,” he says, adding that Sajid Khan’s Housefull comes next, making the top five.

Apart from these, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Peepli Live too make it to the hit category while Ishqiya and Tere Bin Laden are said to have done average business. Sanjay Ghai says Shankar’s Robot (Hindi) too did well earning 30 crore, while the figures of the Tamil original aren’t being disclosed by Sun, which produced and distributed the Rajnikanth-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sci-fi extravaganza. Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol did very well internationally, but according to Ashish Saxena, CEO, Big Cinemas, “It didn’t make money for Fox Star, which distributed the film worldwide.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan might sue Indian Elle for reportedly lightening her skin on its blanket

Uber-popular Bollywood celeb Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may sue Indian Elle for reportedly lightening her skin on its cover, according to Hindustan Times. The news comes in response to a tremendous outcry from fans after the December issue was released If her skin was in fact lightened for the cover, it was totally unnecessary. I have always thought Aishwarya was one of the most beautiful women in the world no Photo shopping required.

Affidavit Details FBI 'Operation Payback' Probe

Via The Smoking Gun.

As part of an international criminal probe into computer attacks launched this month against perceived corporate enemies of WikiLeaks, the FBI has raided a Texas business and seized a computer server that investigators believe was used to launch a massive electronic attack on PayPal, The Smoking Gun has learned.

The FBI investigation began earlier this month after PayPal officials contacted agents and “reported that an Internet activist group using the names ‘4chan’ and “Anonymous” appeared to be organizing a distributed denial of service (“DDoS”) attack against the company,” according to an FBI affidavit excerpted here.

The PayPal assault was part of “Operation Payback,” an organized effort to attack firms that suspended or froze WikiLeaks’s accounts in the wake of the group’s publication of thousands of sensitive Department of State cables. As noted by the FBI, other targets of this “Anonymous” effort included Visa, Mastercard, Sarah Palin’s web site, and the Swedish prosecutor pursuing sex assault charges against Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder.

On December 9, PayPal investigators provided FBI agents with eight IP addresses that were hosting an “Anonymous” Internet Relay Chat (IRC) site that was being used to organize denial of service attacks. The unidentified administrators of this IRC “then acted as the command and control” of a botnet army of computers that was used to attack target web sites.

Katrina Kaif to go non alluring in Jha's Satsang

Katrina Kaif to go non alluring in Jha's SatsangKatrina Kaif's feisty role in Prakash Jha's Raajneeti won her a lot of accolades. Hence, a lot of people were surprised when Kats didn't feature in Jha's next biggie Aarakshan. However, Katrina has no reason to worry as she is all set to work with Jha again in a film titled Satsang.

Satsang would feature Katrina in the role of a woman from the West in search of spirituality. She would be seen in a non-glamorous avatar without any make-up and would be donning ochre robes. Even though the film will mostly kick off only after Jha finishes Aarakshan, Katrina is super-excited at the prospect of re-uniting once again with Prakash Jha. The actress believes this to be her most challenging role till date.

Malaika Arora Khan frantic to rake in moolah

Malaika Arora Khan wants to cash in on the popularity of her hit track Munni badnaam hui in every way. Malaika will be ringing in the new year performing at Amby Valley in Pune, in return for a hefty fee, we presume. She has even put her vacation plans with hubby Arbaaz Khan on hold for this reason.

Malaika Arora Khan frantic to rake in moolah

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, on the other hand, rejected an offer of ` 3.5 crore to go on a Christmas vacation. " As Tees Maar Khan was releasing during Christmas, Katrina will have post release events to handle," said a source, adding, " But Malaika would definitely be dancing at Amby Valley."

Hema Malini to direct Dharmendra and Esha in next flick

Hema Malini to direct Dharmendra and Esha in next flickActress Hema Malini will reportedly wield the mike again for an upcoming film that hits theaters early next year. According to reports from Bollywood, the actress will return to direction after a span of eighteen years with her husband Dharmendra and daughter Esha Deol as stars of the upcoming Bollywood film. In a statement to the media, Hema Malini says that she had a very nice time shouting directions at her hubby and daughter.

Considering that Dharmendra is known for his angry image, did he work according to Hema Malini’s directions? The actress turned director says that Dharmendra did object to her methods of direction initially, but since Hema Malini was strict about what she wanted from her actors, he too was bound to listen to her!Hema Malini makes it clear that she has returned to direction only for her daughter Esha Deol, who unfortunately cannot boast of a real career in Bollywood! But mommy dearest is hopeful that her second directorial venture Tell Me Oh Khuda with Esha Deol will be liked by the masses.

Hema Malini says that she shared a wonderful relationship with her daughter on the film’s sets and she loved the fact that Esha Deol always made it a point to take her advice before and after each shot. Tell Me Oh Khuda will hit theaters in March next year. Hema Malini’s first film as a director was the Shahrukh Khan and Divya Bharati starrer Dil Aashna Hai, which was one of the first hits of superhit actor Shahrukh Khan.

Anushka rejected the lead in a Hindi film

Anushka is reject to do the lead in a Hindi filmWhile Illeana is happily doing her second lead in her maiden Bollywood film, Anushka is refusing to do the lead in a Hindi movie. Normally, any heroine would die for a lead role in a big Hindi movie.

But Anushka shows no interest. Recently, she was offered the role in a Bollywood flick, remake of the Tamil movie Singam in which she did the lead role. But Anushka didn't accept it.

Bollywood director Rohith Shetty who is remaking it personally asked her to enter Hindi film industry, yet Anushka declined politely saying she's "comfortable in South film industry.

"Anushka is the busiest star in Telugu and Tamil and she is in much demand. So she doesn't want to become another Asin or Trisha who are now back from Bollywood doing South movies.

Although Asin made a grand entry into Bollywood with Ghajini, her subsequent flops made her a no star. Trisha's first Hindi movie, Khatta Meetha, was a disaster. Seeing their pathetic situation in Bollywood, Anushka wants to continue doing Telugu and Tamil movies.

Ajay Devgan declared that he never produces any arrangements prior to marking a picture

His consummate performing skills made him a successful star in the industry. Ajay Devgn is evidently the most bankable star in Bollywood as per the current box office situation. Most of films in which Ajay Devgan played the lead turned to be block busters. His list of hits of the year 2010 include Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Raajneeti, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and last but not least Golmaal 3.

Ajay Devgan declared that he never produces any arrangements prior to marking a picture

Commenting on why he declined the offer to play the lead role in Prakash Jha's 'Aarakshan', Ajay Devgan said that his hectic schedule prevented him from accepting the offer in the film. He is palpably basking in the success of almost all his films released this year.

Amitabh Bachchan makes ‘deadly proclamations' about media

Amitabh Bachchan makes ‘deadly proclamations' about mediaAmitabh Bachchan has had a 40-year-old long love-hate relationship with the media, ever since he began his Bollywood journey. The actor, who is 68 years old and is still going strong, knows how to prove people wrong by his witticisms, Zee News reported.

According to a report, the living legend, who made an appearance on Karan Johar’s talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’, expressed his deadly views on some of the well-known faces of the fourth estate on a recent episode.

However, the audiences could not hear the stalwart’s comments as they were chopped off the episode. When quizzed by the filmmaker on which was the most over exposed couple, Big B spontaneously replied, “Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghvi are the most overexposed couple of the year,” the website reported.

When promos of Amitabh’s statements were aired, some people showed great interest and made frantic calls to the producer of the show for the sound bytes. Considering the fact that the statements were quite controversial, KJ’o decided it was best to pull it off from the episode to be telecast.

Moreover, when KJo asked Big B about the worse criticism that he had ever heard about himself, the actor said, “Devyani Chaubal saw ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ and wrote ‘his sun is setting, he’s over’...Pritish Nandy wrote an article on me and titled it ‘Finished’,” the report said.

Fight to be more Bengali, Vidya Balan versus Rani Mukherjee

Fight to be more Bengali, Vidya Balan versus Rani MukherjeeImagine Vidya Balan staying up till 3 in the night and singing “Aar koto raat eka thakbo… Chokh mele dekhbo naa tomake…”That’s from Rani’s Believe It Or Not collection about her No One Killed Jessica co-star.

One is a Bengali by chance. The other a Bengali by choice. Between them on Monday evening, Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan were more like two Bengalis coming home to Calcutta than two big Bollywood stars coming to the city to promote their film.

The last time Rani and Vidya were seen together in Calcutta was in August, in the front row of designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s debut show in the city at Taj Bengal. On Monday, the venue was the same and both were again wearing Sabyasachi but this time the spotlight was firmly on the two women.

They had flown in from Mumbai earlier in the morning. And the moment they set foot in Calcutta, Vidya had squealed out loud at the airport. A concerned Rani turned around and asked her what had happened. “I am in my city!” Vidya replied. “Pagol meye!” Rani concluded.

A few hours later Rani was in the mood to make most of that mad streak. “I am telling you Vidya was a Bengali in her last birth... she loves to speak Bengali, she loves to eat Bengali food and she loves Bengali men,” Rani announced even as a stunned Vidya didn’t know how to react.

And then came the killer line. “Vidya would love to get married to a Bengali man who has a long surname ending with ‘jee’, like Chatterjee or Mukherjee,” Rani quipped, before adding: “She would love to be a Mrs Mukherjee.”

The impromptu Bengali jamming between the two Bolly beauties didn’t end there. Recovering from this sudden onslaught, Vidya started singing the Autograph chartbuster — “Aamake aamar moto thakte dao... aami nijeke nijer moto guchhiye niyechhi...”

Rani was not done. “See, her Bengali pronunciation sounds like a Bengali.” Vidya was ready with the repartee this time — “Karon aami mon theke Bangali!”

If Vidya’s Bengali was sounding just right — after spending two months in the city shooting for Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani — Rani’s Bengali was sounding very Lokhandwala. “Don’t make me speak more Bengali... I am getting exposed,” the Miss Mukerji herself pleaded.

Raj Kumar Gupta, director of No One Killed Jessica, confirmed that even on the sets of the film, which is inspired by the Jessica Lal murder case, it was one big, mad Bengali party. With Sabyasachi designing for both the actresses in the film, “everyone was jabbering in Bengali all the time”.

What’s more, they even shot a few crucial scenes of the film here in Calcutta — Maidan to New Market, Ballygunge to Dum Dum. “Sabrina Lal’s (Jessica’s sister, played by Vidya) journey brings her to Calcutta and it was important that we actually came to Calcutta to shoot that portion,” Raj Kumar revealed.

Cut to Monday morning, and it was Rani who was taking a trip down Calcutta memory lane. The actress had gone straight from the airport to Elgin Road for a bhanr of tea.

“It’s a place where my maa and mashi used to take me from the very beginning for bhanrer cha,” Rani told Metro. “I really enjoy it. There are so many things I would love to do here in Calcutta but I always come with so much work in hand that it never happens.”

But what binds Vidya to Calcutta? “Rani is always curious about my Bengali connection... ‘what is this connection I want to understand’, she asks me,” Vidya said. “Wish I could understand it myself....”

So has she become more Bangali than Rani? “That I don’t know, that I don’t know,” Vidya laughed out loud with a twinkle in her eye. “But all I can say is that Tomate aamate dekha hoyechhilo, jaani naa kobe kothay... That’s what I feel about Calcutta.”

I'm Never Alone with My Clones

My "Separated At Birth" Doppelganger List (Updated)

Thanks to Cecilia Strakna for the latest sightings of my separated-at-birth siblings, like Martina Navratilova...

Me and Martina (I'm the one on the right)

and Tom Petty...

Nothing petty about this comparison: Me and TP

Yes, the Martina comparison is frightingly spot-on, and I used to get Tom Petty comments all the time when I was younger, gaunt-er (is that a word?) and had more - and longer - of my trademark straggly hair. It used to be every African-American person I met would call me either "Tom Petty" or, back when I played pick-up basketball, "Larry Bird" - the latter comparison inevitably forcing me to reply, "I'm flattered, but you'll soon see my game is more Chucky Driesell [former Maryland Terrapins coach Lefty Driesell's talent-challenged/benchwarming son] than Bird!"

Of course, I naturally prefer Lori Heddinger's pic of my blue-eyed twin, Paul Newman:

Me and Paul Newman (FYI, I'm on the left)

OK, fair enough. Add 'em to my ever-growing list...This isn't my list, but one comprised of people I've been told I resemble - most comparisons here come from high-functioning mentally deficient peeps, though some are courtesy of normal people who weren't dropped on their heads as babes.

Team Doppleganger: Wuz We Separated At Birth?

This is me. Now check out the rest of my alleged clones.

1. Carson Kressely

"Lemme blow ya - a kiss!"

My Couture Cousin from TV's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I'm a better dresser though (Carson is too into flaming pastel threads!).

2. Keith Urban

I wish! Dude looks like a lost brother of the Gibb Brothers Tribe. The Country & Western-loving bagger lady at Eddie's insists I look like him. (Was this middle-aged grandma hitting on me?)

3. Julian Sands

We both have that manly, Slavic jaw thing going on, like something only a Cubist painter or Rock 'Em-Sock 'Em Robot would envy. Oh yeah, and that Flying V receding hairline thang is definitely going on as well!

4. Bob (Frank Silva) from TWIN PEAKS

Fear me!

5. Charlie Watts

Definitely. And I played drums, too! Wait - or should that line be: "But unlike me, Charlie could actually play drums"?

6. Martin Short

Guess it's the schnozzola. I used to work as a contractor at BGE and this Jamaican guy there would always greet me at the coffee machine with a "Greetings, Mr. Marteen Short, mon!"

7. Nick Gilder

Hmmm, maybe when I had long hair and my youthful cheeks were more sullen and gaunt. Does anyone even remember "Hot Child in the City"? These days I'm more like "Old Man in the Suburbs."

8. The Greaseman (DC 101 DJ Don Tracht, greaseman.org)
">

When his hair thinned, he kinda looked like me on Steroids. Always loved the Greaseman - better than his old station mate Howard Stern, for my money!

9. Kato Kaehlin

Exhibit A: Classic longhair edition

Exhibit B: Nouveau shorthair edition

Conair the Barbarian! I can certainly see a resemblance, though Kato looks smarter.

10. William Hurt

All I know is, the resemblance is Hurt-in' me bigtime.

11. David Spade

I do love his "No Can Do" attitude!

12. Southside Johnny of Asbury Jukes fame

God what an ugly fucker! Let's move on, shall we?...

13. Bill Maher

I don't see this one at all, but there's this pain-in-the-ass regular at the library who I detest who insists that I look like Bill Maher - probably just to (further) annoy me. Again, as with Martin Short, I think it has to do with my studly schnozz. (You know what they say: big nose, big...nostrils!)

14. Gary Numanesque Alien from made-for-TV doc FUTURE SHOCK.

OK, I made that last one up (taking a pic from the little known 1972 documentary based on Alvin Toffler's book Future Shock and featuring narration by Orson Welles from his I-Need-A-Paycheck period) - but only because of my triskadekaphobia (I needed a #14!). My girlfriend Amy says this looks like a mummified Incan child. (I didn't ask her if that was turn-on or not.) Personally, this dude reminds me more of Paul Williams. Either way, it's an improvement over Southside Johnny!

***

Well, there you have it People Watchers. I neglected to mention the junkie guy at the library who once quipped that I looked a lot like "This dude I knew who got shot in the face" (he didn't specify whether I looked like the guy before or after his face got blown away), but I left that one off because no picture (and possibly no face) was available to post. Please lemme know if you can think up any more. Suggestions are always welcome. But please limit submitted likenesses to mammals.
