Tanushree Dutta: Actress sheds attire for open

"Actually, when people come to you with the line that shedding of inhibitions is the demand of a particular screen role, they are actually pandering to the public demand. Words like demand of the role or the character are all trash," Tanushree told media persons in an interview.

Tanushree Dutta: Actress sheds attire for open

Asked whether she is ready to shed clothes if the character required that, Dutta said: "In Bollywood, people have been making movies for more than half a century and they are made in such a way that you need not shed off all your inhibitions. I would really draw the line. I am no more a newcomer in Bollywood.

Tanushree had won the Femina Miss India Universe title in 2004, and made her entry into Bollywood in 2005 with the hit film "Aashiq Banaya Aapne". She starred in "Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets" the same year, and came to be considered one of tinsel town's dark horses.

But she failed to live up to the initial expectations of her fans as most of her films except "Dhol" and "Bhagam Bhag" bombed at the box office.

Asked about the fate of most of her films, the former beauty queen said: "To what extent a film works is beyond me. My first film 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' did wonders at the box office. Then 'Chocolate' was also quite popular, but it didn't have the same effect as the first one.

"I just look at my work and of course it's my responsibility to sign good films so as to make sure that people come to watch. But sometimes there are lots of things which are not in our hands. I always try to do the best I can. Some movies work, some movies don't," said the 26-year-old actor.

spending more than five years in Bollywood, and with an experience of working in nearly 12 Hindi and Telugu films, Tanushree now wants to do something different.

"At this point of time I really want to do a historical movie. May be it's going to take some time. I have covered various genres. I have done romantic, psycho-thriller, thriller, crime based, comedy, romantic comedy. Now I want to do a periodical. I also want to do a musical film," she said.

Tanushree nurtures a dream of working on a hardcore subject and literature-based Bengali film in the coming years, but says that she hasn't got an impressive offer yet.

"I have always wanted to work in a Bengali film. But till date I haven't got that kind of offer that would impress me.

"Bengali filmmakers have come up with subjects that are so touchy and hardcore. Literature- and sahitya-based movies are made here. I want to work in literature-based movies in Bengal as this is the specialty of the Bengali film industry," said Tanushree, who has completed a month-long acting workshop in the US.

Tanushree said she wants to sign movies, but she doesn't have the "psychology" of having back-to-back releases in a short span.

"I am planning to sign movies. Actually I don't have that psychology of having two back-to-back releases in three months. I don't know what I am going to sign next or when I am going to sign next. But one thing I can guarantee, that it's going to exciting," said Tanushree.

Tanushree Dutta back to her bold ways

Tanushree Dutta is one actor who would not shy away from getting saucy on-screen and she reveals that she is ready to go bold again. The actor had drawn flak from various quarters for her intimately physical act with Emraan Hashmi in Aashiq Banaya Apne.

Tanushree Dutta back to her bold ways

But she is ready to walk the steamy path again and shed some clothes, now that most actresses have done so on-screen with ease and without criticism. Ask her how bold is bold and she shoots, “Pretty much like all other actresses these days, my threshold is the regular, nothing out of the ordinary.

I would say. Although in the past few years I’ve been playing it pretty safe with my movies and photoshoots alike, now that some of our top league heroines have raised the bar with bold scenes and bikini shots I fear less about being burnt at the stake.”

And will she do a sizzling bikini number like almost everyone these days? “I was waiting for all other actresses to wear a bikini first so I can just follow the bandwagon. My bold act in Aashiq Banaya... did give me the daggers and in Bollywood, innovation and initiation is never a virtue, all those who have dared to be different have been an easy target,” she says. Since she has mentally prepared herself to do a hot act, source asked her to rate her body.

“At the moment I would give it an average five and that’s because I’m just back from an extra long and leisurely holiday,” she says, laughing. Tanushree says ‘dreamer’ is the word to best describe her as she has always followed her heart and done things without apprehension.

“It’s a childhood obsession and I could actually daydream for hours, although I must say that a lot of my achievements in life have been the result of that but sometimes it’s a sheer waste of time. I’m a Piscean and that’s my favourite excuse for still indulging,” she ends.

I was unduly stereotyped - Tanushree

She created a buzz in Bollywood with her debut in Aashiq Banaya Aapne but Tanushree Dutta’s career.

Soon fizzled out and the actress blames the judgemental nature of the film industry for it.

Dutta who is back on the silver screen after a gap of almost two years with the horror flick Rokkk says that.

She was unduly stereotyped as mere eye candy who could do nothing but “hot and sultry” roles.

“The surprising part though is that even though I have worked in different genre of movies, I was slotted in a certain bracket.

I was told that people expected me to be a hot and sultry woman in each of my films,” she said.

But the 29 year old former Miss India is excited about her new innings which promises to show her in a different light.

“I can see that today, there is a different perception about me in Bollywood. Yes, it has taken some time.

But I am happy that I am reaching there,” said Tanushree who is now looking forward to.

The release of her next film ‘Apartment’ She was one of the hottest debutants in Bollywood circuits when she enjoyed a double bill in ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ and ‘Chocolate’ which released within a fortnight of each other in 2005.

The Bengali beauty who is still remembered for a steamy love scene between her and Emraan Hashmi in ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ said that the audience will see her in a whole new avatar in Jagmohan Mundhra’s ‘Apartment’ . “I have worked with many people in the last five years and I can tell whether a person is making a good film or not.

In case of ‘Apartment’ I can confidently state that we have a wonderful product in hand,” said the actress. Though the film is a low budget project without a high profile star cast, Dutta is confident that the film will be a big step forward in her celluloid career.

“Jag has worked in numerous projects in the West as well. His movies like ‘Bawandar’ and ‘Provoked’ are great piece of cinema. Moreover, he is technically very superior and certainly knows what he is doing. When you work with someone like him.

It’s only you who ends up gaining the most as an artist,” said Dutta. Though she has played a strong willed woman in movies like ‘Raqeeb’, ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Saas Bahu Aur Sensex’, it’s a new Tanushree which one will get to see in ‘Apartment’ where she plays the role of a victim.

“And trust me that’s no less a challenge,” she said. “Since Apartment is a psychological thriller, I had to be very careful about how I conducted myself because one false move and the whole character as well as the film would have come falling down,” she said.
