Mausam 'Cowed' down

Mausam `Cowed` down Nowadays it appears that animals have more rights and privileges than human beings, at least as far as the censor board is concerned.

The five promotional trailers of Mausam are pending clearance, reportedly on 'humanitarian' grounds, as one of them features a cow. Not that the cow is being ill-treated or even milked on screen. It's just a cow passing by in a frame. Yes, you heard that right.

The censor board has now asked the Mausam producers to obtain clearance from the Animal Welfare Board, in order to get clearance.

Producer Sheetal Talwar is livid. "I understand any shot of an animal in a film has to be cleared by the Animal Welfare Board. For our film Rakht Charitra we even had to get clearance from the Board for random street dogs that wandered into the frame. Fair enough. There's a shot of a cow in Mausam. We are ready to get a clearance from the Animal Welfare Board for it." Talwar however wonders why all the teaser trailers have been held back.

"The censors are welcome to hold back the trailer with the cow, until we get clearance. But why hold back all five trailers?"

Pankaja Thakur, chief executive officer of the censor board said, "The regional officer in Mumbai, JP Singh, has examined the promos, and cleared all the same."

Singh however said, "The Animal Welfare Board's NOC (no-objection certificate) is required in order to show animals on screen."

Kapoor: Ranaut is very stylish

Sonam Kapoor: Kangna Ranaut is very stylishThursday was Sonam Kapoor’s birthday and like the professional actress she is, she spent the day shooting for Mausam, her upcoming film opposite Shahid Kapoor. About any chances of her being linked with Shahid, Sonam says, “Thankfully, I haven't been linked with him. I am very fond of Shahid. He’s a dear friend and a great co-star and whichever girl he ends up with will be very lucky.

Sonam’s just back from Cannes and she says that the Red Carpet experience was awesome, but when asked about foraying into Hollywood, she says, “It depends. I have always felt that it doesn’t matter what language the film is in, it depends on the role I am offered, the project, the director and the story. Of course, I would love to do something with a brilliant director.”

Recently chosen as the face of the India International Jewellery Week, we ask what jewellery means to her. “Jewellery making is an art form, there is a lot of creativity involved and it’s an excellent investment. I love emeralds, rubies, sapphires, everything. But there is a certain classic quality to diamonds and that will always be in,” she says, adding that her father Anil Kapoor is not very good when it comes to buying jewellery.

Given the few films she has done, Sonam is already in the big league when it comes it endorsements. She, however, says, “I am doing enough for myself. It is better to concentrate on a few (products) which have quality. I have always decided to endorse the best.”

When asked about which Bollywood heroine, according to her, was the most fashionable, she says, “Karishma Kapoor and Twinkle Khanna are on my list of very fashionable people. I also find Kangana Ranaut very stylish.”

I have no rivals in Bollywood: Sonam Kapoor

I have no rivals in Bollywood: Sonam KapoorCatfights and rivalries are dime a dozen in Bollywood but actress Sonam Kapoor who is often pitted against contemporaries like Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha, says that the "war" is just a media creation.

According to the 25-year-old all the leading ladies of Bollywood can find their own place under the sun. "We all have been here for some time now and are trying to do our best. Why create a sense of war among us? I don't see any kind of rivalry here and there is no point in comparing one with other," said Sonam.

The actress, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, had debuted along with Deepika Padukone on the same day when her 'Saawariya' clashed with 'Om Shanti Om'. And in recent times, Anushka Sharma and Sonakshi Sinha have also entered the fray.

"The good part is that all of us are very different from each other. If you look at Deepika or Anushka, we are all poles apart. As for Sonakshi, I can't even think of getting competitive with her. She is a very good friend of my sister and has practically grown up with me," said Sonam.

Though Sonam's debut film bombed at the box office, she tasted success later with 'I Hate Luv Storys' and followed it up with the chick-flick 'Aisha' and the recent

multi-starrer 'Thank You'. Another benefit of working in this film was a protective senior co-actor in the form of Akshay Kumar. "He was always super nice to me. Those who have worked with him tell me that he restricts himself to professional conversations but with me he was very sweet and kind. I immediately felt comfortable with him," said the actress.

Akshay Kumar vows to kill the man who hurts Kapoor

Akshay Kumar vows to kill the man who hurts Sonam KapoorSonam Kapoor, who opened her record in the tinsel town with ‘Sawariyan’, is slated to star inverse Akshay for the picture Thank You. Notwithstanding the trustworthiness of the embodiment of a couple, Akshay had the preferred sentences of applause to utter noticing her reel as well as the true blue essence element

In the supposition of the macho character, Sonam who is depicting one of her more develop roles is so true blue in her exhibition that she is determined to have the crowd react zealously to her tears and roar. Granted that, the character had some antagonistic things to state about several of her co actors, as per Akshay, Sonam is one of the sweetest ones consistently highlighting her internal marvelousness. Akshay showed the stature of his gallantry and defense with the idiom that if a man damages her, he will head over to the degree of executing him.

While such hyperboles may sound clichéd, they often become a part of the promotional preceding the release of a film. But in spite, of the overstatement involved Akshay Kumar is always known for his amiability and helpfulness. This is especially true of the new brand of heroines who are too young for him. In the industry marked by jealousy and cut throat competition such gestures are always welcomed. But we hope he means what he says. At least he will have the golden opportunity to kill one such man. Guess who?

Sonam Kapoor in Tamil remake of Dabangg

Sonam Kapoor in Tamil remake of DabanggSonam is being considered for the female lead in the Tamil remake of Dabangg after the original actress, Sonakshi Sinha refused the role.

The Dabangg fever seems to have caught the nation in a big way. While Bollywood is all set to make a sequel to Dabangg , South film industry is high on remaking the film. The Telugu remake will star Pawan Kalyan and the Tamil remake will star Simbu ( Silambarasan).

Interestingly while South superstars will play Salman Khan's character, for the female lead they seem to be looking for a Bollywood face. The actress from the original, Sonakshi Sinha was offered the Tamil remake but she refused. Subsequently there were stories that Katrina Kaif might do the film, since she has already worked in some South films.

However now the role has gone to Sonam Kapoor and the actress seems to be giving it a serious thought. An entry in the South film industry means more money and more fame. So if all goes well, Sonam might recreate Sonakshi's part in the Tamil Dabangg . A source adds, "There was also buzz that the gorgeous South actress Kajal Aggarwal was being considered but Simbu insisted the makers to replace her with Sonam".

Incidentally not many might be aware that Sonam's father Anil Kapoor started his career with a South film (Kannada) called Pallavi Anu Pallavi which also marked the debut of Mani Ratnam as a director.

Sonam Kapoor in local style

Sonam Kapoor in local styleActress Sonam Kapoor may be known for her international sense of style as she is spotted sporting Italian and French labels but she has decided to support desi designers. And the first from the lot happens to be Masaba, actor Neena Gupta’s daughter.

“It doesn’t matter who it is. Talent is talent and I always believed that it needs support,” Sonam said during an event. Sonam hinted that time that she will try to choose Indian designers over others whenever possible. “Indian designers are as good as anybody else in the world. We have the talent and we are good at it. When it comes to style, I think that Indians are one of the most stylish people in the world,” she added.

Masaba confirms that Sonam immediately agreed to support her when she approached her before launching her flagship store in Mumbai. “She was very supportive and I must tell you that she is unlike most other actors that I have come across. I had approached a celebrity who was the show stopper for Tarun Tahiliani’s show earlier but it is Sonam who immediately agreed to support me in this endeavor even though I am an upcoming designer,” says Masaba.

Not only did Sonam agree to inaugurate her flagship store, she will also be styled by Masaba for the event. Talking about her line Masaba says, “Dhotis, angarakhas, jumpsuits, ikat and silk sarees and shift dresses are some of the silhouettes. The colours are vibrant with patchwork playing a predominant role in most of my garments. My trademark style is fierce and bold with a strong play of colour and cut, but also traditionally rooted.”

Sonam Kapoor: Guess which figure part of Bipasha Basu she envies

Sonam Kapoor: Guess which figure part of Bipasha Basu she enviesKatrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai or Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu or Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta- tensions have always surfaced when two actresses come together for a film. Sparks fly as backbiting, bitching or utter dislike emerges.

However, contrary to the general expectations, ravishing Sonam Kapoor and the Bong bombshell Bipasha Basu hit it off like a house on fire when they bumped on the sets of ‘Player’.

‘Player’ is an action caper from Abbas-Mastan factory and has Sonam and Bipasha as the leading females. Since the duo has never worked with each other, the crew members were jittery about how they would go about their business.

But instead of ignorance or showing any acrimony, they soon greeted each other and dug deep into engrossing chitchats. Bipasha, who is a fitness freak, lent her handy tips to Sonam who, on her part, shared her fashion advices.

And Sonam professed her envy for Bipasha’s body part- her oomph-evoking legs. Yes! Sonam is willing to swap her legs for that of Bipasha’s. Toned and well-muscled, Bipasha’s legs are fetching high demand these days. But we love Sonam the way she is. Let Bips keep her limbs. They suit her more than they would have suited Sonam.

Deepika Padukone Says: No problem with Sonam

Deepika Padukone Says: No problem with SonamBollywood might be abuzz with the talk of a big patch up between Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor as they gear up to appear on Karan Johar's talk show, Koffee With Karan. But Deepika, feels that she and Sonam never had any problem.

"People are saying that this is going to be a patch-up. But I say there was never a problem between us. It's just that we are two people who never really kept in touch. I am looking forward to meeting her on the show," Deepika said recently. Deepika and Sonam have reportedly been taking jibes at each other at various events. While Sonam was believed to be close to her Saawariya co-star Ranbir Kapoor before Deepika stepped in his life, the latter made remarks about Sonam being the 'daddy's darling'. Well, let us see the cat fight or should we call it a truce?

Sonakshi Sinha’s Fat to Fit Body Tale

Sonakshi Sinha’s Fat to Fit Body TaleYou could define it as the Sonakshi/Sonam syndrome. And it’s making itself amply evident across the world including India, among young girls shedding their extra kilos to sport a svelte figure. Sonakshi Sinha the lead actress in the bollywood blockbuster “Dabangg” is a far cry from the plump girl that she was till only a year ago. According to some Bollywood reports, Sonakshi Sinha was around 30 kgs overweight before she made her big screen debut into the Bollywood Industry. Anil Kapoor’s Daughter Bollywood Star Sonam Kapoor too is reported to have been some 90 kgs before she debuted in “Saawariya”. From overweight adolescents to fab figure femmes, these actresses exemplify an increasing trend among young girls. Isnt that great???

According to one of the country’s obesity consultant and practising dietitian Deepika Bhalla, the frequency with which she comes across such cases of young girls wanting to lose weight is alarming. “Girls who’re happy being plump in school suddenly become conscious of their looks when they turn 16 or 18. And since that’s the time when their college life also begins, they’re at pains to look their best. There is also a great deal of peer pressure to look better than your friends,” says Deepika Bhalla, adding, “And the advantage in these times is that you can lose weight pretty quickly, thanks to our medical science that all the treatments, diets and advice available in the market.”

While losing excess weight is a good thing, as perhaps may be the case with Sonakshi Sinha, trying to get a Perfect 10 figure overnight is a dangerous trend, warn experts. According to clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Varkha Chulani, “The size zero like Kareena Kapoor flaunts attracts girls towards equating beauty with the kind of figure they have. And they start believing that they need to have a perfect figure to look great. This results in over-exercising and going under the knife, which jeopardizes their body.”

Sonam Kapoor not in action

Sonam Kapoor not in actionSonam Kapoor has been hit by typhoid. She will be out of action for around three weeks. A source close to Sonam says, "After she came back from her US holiday and her Thank You shoot, Sonam became extremely unwell. She was diagnosed as having typhoid and was advised complete bed rest for 20 days by her doctor."

Apparently, Sonam was asked to walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra (she had acted in his nephew's directorial debut I Hate Luv Storys) during the Lakme Fashion Week but had to cancel because of her illness.

The source retorts, "Sonam was not to walk the ramp but simply attend LFW. In fact, she had to cancel a few work commitments including an endorsement event because of her ailment. She couldn't go to Delhi or shoot for Thank You. She's resting at home and can't attend anything."Sonam says, "I was never going to walk the ramp for Manish. Aisha opens to a mixed response

Aisha opens to a mixed responseThe chick-flick Aisha toplining Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor, that released last week, opened to a mixed response.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “The film was received well at multiplexes with 70 to 80 per cent occupancy on Friday.

However, the response at single-screens and small centres was dull, with the opening being in the range of 20 per cent to 25 per cent.”

This was corroborated by Prakhar Joshi, Head of Programming, PVR Cinemas, who said, “The film has taken a good opening.

It has collected about Rs 2.45 crore across the country. Our multiplexes in South Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai have opened with almost 90 percent occupancy over the weekend. Compared to this, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai collected Rs 1.2 crore in the same period.”

Aisha is a joint production between PVR Pictures and Anil Kapoor Film Company. Debuting with 475 screens in India and 135 screens overseas, an official release from PVR Pictures puts the first weekend collections at an optimistic Rs 26 crore. However, apart from these enthusiastic bursts, it was a picture of gloom for other exhibitors across the country.

In fact, Manoj Desai of G-7 and Maratha Mandir said that single-screens have already moved on and are looking forward to next Friday’s releases Peepli [Live] and Help to provide succour to their already-battered trade figures.

As for Aisha, exhibitors have hinted that if collections don’t pick up by this week, there are chances that the number of screens will be reduced. Devang Sampat, president of Cinemax India, said, “We will take a decision on Wednesday (August 11).”

At most places, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, which released on July 30, was doing better business than Aisha. Manoj Desai confirmed this and said, “Please don’t ask me about Aisha’s collections. All I can say is that Once Upon A Time.. is going stronger in its second week than Aisha collected over its first weekend.” At Cinemax India, the movie did not even cross the Rs 1 crore barrier over its first three days. Devang Sampat said, “The results are not so great. Aisha is doing average business.

It has collected Rs 85 lakh across all Cinemax properties in the country in the first three days.” Trade analyst Amod Mehra called the film a washout. The movie opened with 30 per cent collections on Friday and Saturday, which grew to 40 per cent on Sunday across multiplexes.

The English film Predators is actually doing better business than Aisha. The film has a chance to just about break even given its low production costs.” Adarsh explained the break-up and said, “The factor that goes in its favour is its costing.

The cost of production is around Rs 14 crore and the makers have recovered a big chunk of the investment from the sale of satellite rights for Rs 9 crore and music rights for Rs 1.5 crore.” According to sources, PVR has reportedly spent close to Rs 6 crore to promote the movie. This leaves a total of Rs 10 crore to be recovered by theatrical revenues.

Boys suck! - Sonam

Daddy’s little daughter is all grown up and ready to take the world in her stride. More so, with her upcoming project, Aisha. The film might be the story of a woman.

Who has not yet come of age, but in reality Sonam Kapoor is far from it and many things more.

In town to promote her latest film, the actor is her usual bubbly, chirpy self, outrightly proving to be the jaan of the show.

First things first. Aisha is based on Jane Austen’s Emma and the voracious reader that Sonam is, she has read the novel “five to six times” for Aisha.

“Of course, I had read Emma when I was in Class VIII. In fact, I have gone through all Austen novels,” fills in Sonam. And then she goes on to elaborate why Austen wrote, ‘I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like.’

Hmmm. We like the fact that our heroine has more to her than just a pretty face and a fancy wardrobe. As she talks about her film, Sonam stresses how her father was a “proud dad” with this project. “He treats us like boys and tells us that we have do well in life and give our best to whatever we do. He keeps setting examples of Serena and Venus Williams,” says Sonam, adding that meeting her dad’s expectations was pressurising. “Our parents expect us to be well-brought up and polite to everyone,” she explains.

Interestingly, this daughter also thinks the world of her sister, Rhea, who turns producer with this project. “She is cute. In fact, Rhea was the youngest in the team, but she was the biggest boss and the leader. It’s to her credit that we wrapped up the shoot within 67 days instead of the scheduled 69 days,” Sonam’s affection and pride for Rhea is all pervasive. The sister continues, “Rhea and I are like chalk and cheese. I’d give her a 10 on 10 though she is a dictator — the female Hitler.”

So, how would this “female Hitler” rate her as an actor? “Oh, she doesn’t think I am a very good actor,” answers Sonam. Ask her how different or similar the two minds are and Sonam opines, “Rhea is the more practical of the two of us. While I love flowers and cooking, she hates cooking but loves to eat. She is very good at giving practical suggestions though.”

When we suggest that Sonam surely must be daddy’s girl, she turns to Rhea for clarification. “Am I daddy’s girl or mama’s darling, Rhea?” Sister dear votes for mama’s daughter and Sonam sticks with that answer.

We accept without further ado. And while on her mother, Sonam reveals that her sense of style has come from her mother. “She is strict and everyone is afraid of her. But she has a soft side to her too,” Sonam confides.

Attention soon diverts once again to the real Sonam. One question that keeps bugging her is whether she, too, like Aisha loves match-making? “You bet, I do. But I just mess up. If I can’t find a man for myself, how can you expect me to find a suitable match for someone else?” Sonam jokes and then goes to break hearts with a twinkle in her eye, “I have no intentions of marrying now. Boys suck!” The actor, however, is all praise for one “boy” — Abhay Deol. “He is awesome,” Sonam adds.

Now that Sonam has made films her cup of tea, she shares her views on donning the director’s hat. “Acting is my passion. I am not a people’s person. I can’t manage a crowd. I want to be a writer,” Sonam seems to have it all chalked out. We promise to wait and watch!

Sonam Is Made For Bollywood

Sonam Is Made For BollywoodIt’s a matter of pride that the chiseled beauty of Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor has become another eligible candidate who can seek role in Hollywood just from her naïve period.

But, she is a perfect Bollywood girl and has turned down the attractive offers.Recently, Sonam was offered a movie by Ben Stiller.

But she didn’t say a yes to him and made her way to the Bollywood. It is not a small task, as by rejecting one or two Tinsel Town offers, she could easily make it.

She is busy touring the world around for promoting ‘Aisha’ and she has become quite an international face of the Bollywood after ‘Aisha; got associated with the world brands.

The movie is releasing the next week. After that, she will be busy for Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut movie, ‘Mausam’, which will most probably release the next year.

Her other pipeline Bollywood projects are Anees Bazmi’s ‘Thank You’ and her home production English movie remake of ‘Freaky Friday’.

Anil Kapoor will also cast in the movie. So, this Indian beauty is completely for India till now and doesn’t seem diverted from her aim of becoming the top Bollywood actress.

Fashion gets new face with Sonam Kapoor’s AISHA

Fashion gets new face with Sonam Kapoors AISHA.Earlier the Hollywood movies used to set the benchmark for Bollywood fashion but now the things seem to get changed when an Indian movie ‘Aisha’ starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol claims to showcase high end fashion.

Hollywood calling Sonam Kapoor

Anil Kapoor wooed Hollywood. And now it is his daughter Sonam to be wooed by the west. She has been offered two Hollywood films in the space of six months.

Says a source, "While in LA, Anil met Ben Stiller to exchange ideas for a production company they want to launch together for a joint production.

During one such talk, the actor told him about his home production Aisha, starring his elder daughter. Ben asked to see the film's show reel as he was casting for the role of Kate for his production house's (Red Hour Films) 30 million dollar film. Titled 30 Minutes Or Less, it is directed by Reuben Fleischer and stars Jesse Eisenberg and Danny MacBride. After Stiller saw the show reel, he sent an e-mail to Anil saying he thought Sonam was 'fantastic' and that he wanted to cast her."

Anil's business manager Udayan confirms, "Yes, Sonam has been offered 30 Minutes Or Less and we are working out the dates.

It looks a bit difficult because of her tight schedule as she's shooting for Thank You with Akshay Kumar and Mausam with Shahid Kapoor and promoting her next release Aisha but we are still trying to work it out."

That isn't all. Within a month of Anil's return to India, he got a call for another offer for his beti. This time from Edoardo Ponti (son of Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti's) who just announced a new project called Das and wants to cast the IHLS girl. The film would be made in India.

Says a source close to Anil, "Father and daughter are very clear about their strategy. Sonam is already committed to three releases this year -- Aisha and Mausam and Thank You. These also include promotion for Aisha. These are commitments made earlier and no big film can come in the way of that unless the projects are really exceptional."

Sonam Kapoor : Imran is sexy

The joshing and joking between Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor only goes to show that they are the next hot couple of Bollywood. Moreover, the duo has got a thumbs-up from critics as well. Their chemistry is the USP of this Friday release I Hate Luv Storys. No wonder they can’t stop complimenting one another, when they are not pulling each other’s leg, that is in a latest report

Sonam says that when she first saw Imran in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, she found him “hot”. She loved his ripe lips and Maybelline eyelashes. But Imran is quite dismissive about himself. He doesn’t think he’s sexy. “I think he is (sexy). In fact, Imran is gorgeous,” Sonam is quoted as saying. However, Sonam was quick to add that she likes John Abraham’s butt better. Well, now Imran has something to work on.
